History

Celebrating over twenty years in operation, Lakeland Center (originally called Lakeland Neuro Care Center) opened in 1988. Using leased space in a nursing home in Rochester Hills, Lakeland served individuals with catastrophic brain injuries.

Between 1991 and 1999, Lakeland opened five adult foster care homes designed and staffed to provide a warm, homelike environment for brain injury survivors. We now have six group homes with our most recent having opened in the spring of 2006.

Lakeland moved to its current Southfield location in 1994 and began providing Short-Term Rehab to a more diverse patient population, including, but not limited to, patients with orthopedic injuries, infections, and/or respiratory needs. Lakeland became certified for Medicare in 1997. The facility underwent a major renovation in 2004 and became Medicaid certified in 2006. Finally, Lakeland leased a wing of the building to Henry Ford Hospice in 2007.

Lakeland currently has the capacity to care for 91 patients at its Skilled Nursing Facility and 36 residents in the residential foster care system. Our staff's primary focus is to return patients home after an injury or illness.

Since its founding, Lakeland's goal has been to provide the highest level of patient care while respecting the dignity and uniqueness of every patient and family.
